As food travels, so follows diesel emissions. But not all communities suffer the effects of that pollution equally.
In Recognition of Earth Day, Sustainable Arlington will host
Cate Maas from the Chelsea Collaborative
at its monthly meeting on
April 18th at 7:30 p.m.
Maas will describe the collaborative's experiences and success in working with the New England Produce Center to reduce diesel emissions at the second largest produce distribution center in the country.
Sustainable Arlington was proud to present the second annual Resilient Planet Art Award to two local artists participating in the Arlington Center for the Arts' Images of Arlington exhibit at the openning reception on April 12.
Pamela Powell was recognized for her photo collage and prose piece celebrating her childhood backyard blackeberry bushes.
Lyn MacDonald was recognized for her sculptural installation of heads of cauliflower.
The Resilient Planet Art Award recognizes environmental sustainability and stewardship. In 2012 the award was presented to an artist or artists who connect with the theme - "Locovoracious - About Local Food."
The Gibbs Gallery Images of Arlington exhibit will be on display from April 2-June 15, 2012 at 41 Foster Street, see the ACA website for further details.

About the Emerald Necklace Collaborative:
The Emerald Necklace Maintenance Collaborative provides maintenance crews to care for areas within the Necklace. Crew members come from the Department of Correction Boston Pre-Release Center, where, as part of our program, they also receive vocational training in landscape maintenance and horticultural skills.
Arlington Community Education is offering lectures and workshops this spring that touch on food-related themes, among other environmental topics. Green Prosperity: the Market Gardens of Arlington: talk with local historian Dee Morris takes place on April 5, 7:30-9pm, and Can and Preserve Fruits and Veggies, taught by Robin Cohen (http://dovesandfigs.wordpress.com) happens on April 26, 6:30-9:30pm.
